[ Sep 05, 2007 ] University of Massachusetts IAC Named 2007 Center of Excellence
Congratulations to the University of Massachusetts (UMASS), and its director, Dr. Beka Kosanovic, winners of the 2007 Industrial Assessment Center of Excellence! Each year, one of the DOE Industrial Assessment Centers (IAC) is awarded a special honor which acknowledges exceptional performance, as measured by energy and dollars saved, and also the effort put forth by the IAC director to promote ITP initiatives. UMASS has been a high performer since 1984, adding 620 assessments to the IAC database, developing the Chilled Water System Analysis (CWSAT) software tool, and hosting the annual director's meeting. In addition, Dr. Kosanovic continues to guide the center in directions which benefit the IAC program, such as hosting a combined heat and power applications center, working with the Manufacturing Extension Partnership in multiple states, and actively supporting ITP's Save Energy Now initiative by performing assessments for small and medium-sized manufacturers.
The 26 university-based IACs have earned an outstanding reputation by helping manufacturers to identify energy savings opportunities in their facilities, creating a database of results from more than 11,000 plant assessments, and providing hands-on training for students. UMASS' performance exemplifies the top-notch standards of this ITP program.
